Margret “Rachel” Tucker (Smith) passed away February 26, 2017 at her home, with husband Darrell and brother Ray Smith by her side.
Rachel was born May 31, 1941 in Athens, Alabama to Howard and Estelle (Bond) Smith of Anniston, Alabana. She graduated from West Limestone High School in Limestone County, Alabama in 1959. She then married the love of her life, Darrell Tucker, on April 19, 1963. They shared 54 wonderful years together. They had two sons, Richard Bruce, who passed away on July 9, 2016, and Steve Bradley, who lives with his wife Stephanie and three daughters, Madison (of Pasadena, TX) and Makenzie and Macy in Meriden, KS.
Rachel worked for many years as a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital and later at Holiday Resort, Emporia. She dedicated the majority of her life to being a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. No one could resist her homemade cookies, pumpkin pie, or bread stuffing! Rachel could always light up a room with her corny jokes and southern accent pronunciations of things. Her granddaughters could always count on “Mema” having plenty of costume jewelry to wear and tea to serve for a party, as well as the fridge stocked with an individual pie for each of them. Another favorite memory is of watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang with her and “Papa” over and over again until they all could recite the movie word for word.
Rachel is preceded in death by both of her parents, many aunts and uncles, and her beloved son Richard. She will be forever missed, but NEVER forgotten!
Visitation will be Tuesday evening February 28, 2017 at Roberts Blue Barnet Funeral Home from 6-7:30. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday March 1, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Americus, Kansas. Burial will follow at Americus Cemetery.
