Marie L. Williams

Marie L. Williams, Emporia, Kansas, died at the Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita, Kansas, Saturday morning, July 28, 2012, at the age of 86.



Funeral services will be held at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 1, 2012. The service will be conducted by Pastor Andrew McHenry, First Congregational Church. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, south of Emporia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening, July 31, 2012, from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M.



She was born on the family farm in the Forest Hill Community of rural Chase County, Kansas on May 1, 1926, the daughter of William and Sarah (Bruce) Studer. She married David L. Williams at Cottonwood Falls, Kansas on February 8, 1953. He died July 18, 2000.



Surviving family members include a daughter, Diane (Larry) Havenstein of Manhattan, Kansas; four sons, Jay (Sharon) and Steven (Sonja) of Olpe, Kansas, Stanley of Winona, Minnesota, and Scott (Tina) of Newton, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Glenda Williams, Emporia; twelve grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her son, Jerry, who died April 12, 2007, and a brother, John Studer.



Mrs. Williams and her husband farmed in Lyon and Chase Counties . She was a member of First Congregational Church, Miriam Chapter #14, Order of the Eastern Star (Past Worthy Matron), Social Order of Beauceant, and was a former leader of Girl Scouts and the 4-H Program. She loved to quilt and was an active member of the Quilting Guild and the Prairie Hens EHU.
