Marjorie C. Sheeley, 95, Emporia, Kansas, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the home of her son in Allen, Kansas.
Marjorie Catherine Mulkey was born May 12, 1921 at Frankfort, Kansas, the daughter of Dr. E. W. and Thelma (Whitmer) Mulkey. She married Vesper M. Sheeley, Jr. in Many, Louisiana on June 26, 1943. He preceded her in death February 14, 2002.
Surviving family members include her sons; Dean W. (Judy) Sheeley, Prescott, AZ, Tom (Barb) Sheeley, Allen, KS, and Richard (Jo) Sheeley, Dallas, TX. She was blessed with eight grandchildren; Stephanie Affield, Suzanne Fales, Jason Sheeley, Kristi Lockamy, Matthew Sheeley, Austin Sheeley, Casey Sheeley, and Travis Sheeley, who passed away earlier. Fifteen great-grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. Sheeley graduated Kansas State Teachers College (ESU) in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree with an emphasis in Home Economics. She taught home economics at Lebo (Kansas) High School for 24 years, retiring in 1977. She was a member and “Golden Violet” in the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. She was a member of Flint Hills Christian Church, Emporia.
Services will be Monday, October 17, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Flint Hills Christian Church, Emporia. The service will be conducted by Pastor Dave Hintz of the church. Interment will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Sunday afternoon from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
