Marlys A. Patton, 66, of Emporia, Kansas, died Thursday, July 2, at Newman Regional Health, Emporia.

Marlys Ann Hastings, the daughter of Kenneth S. and Viola L. Schmitz Hastings, was born on October 14, 1948 in Leavenworth, Kansas. She married John C. Patton on July 26, 1970 in Emporia.

Marlys is survived by her husband, John; two sons, Demarick J. (Beth) Patton of Orlando, Florida, and Chadron J. (Sarah) Patton of Lenexa, Kansas; two daughters, Breanne J. (Shawn) Etkie of Parker, Colorado, and Aralee J. (Mark) Nemmers of Englewood, Colorado; a brother, Robert D. Hastings of Hood River Oregon; a sister, Carol M. Honza of Columbia, Maryland; and ten grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by a granddaughter, Ashlyn J. Patton.

Marlys was a homemaker and had previously been an elementary school teacher. She was an avid member of Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church and was very active in many church groups. She also was a member of PEO, PTA and PTO.

She lived her life serving others, especially her four children and Jesus Christ, her Savior. She always had the ability to see the good in every person and situation. Marlys will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Her funeral will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Al Areheart. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Emporia. The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia.
