Martha Alvarez

Martha Alvarez, 53, of Emporia died Friday, June 15, 2018 at her sister’s home in Wichita, with her family by her side.

Martha Gomez, the daughter of Rafael and Maria Nava Gomez was born Tuesday, July 28, 1964 in Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico. She married Carlos Alvarez on October 17, 1992 in Emporia. He survives of the home.

Other surviving members of the family include two daughters, Liliana Alvarez and Jailine Alvarez both of Emporia; her father, Rafael Gomez, Sr. of Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico; three brothers, Ignacio Gomez, Rafael Gomez, Jr. and Fernando Gomez all of Wichita; three sisters, Patricia Salazar, Maria Trujillo and Nicolosa Gomez all of Wichita; and one granddaughter, Viviana Chaparro.

Martha was preceded in death by her mother, Maria Gomez and two brothers, Mario Gomez and Noel Gomez.

She worked as a quality control supervisor at Tyson Meats in Emporia. She also was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church and was a children’s religious education instructor.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 21, 2018 at St. Catherine Catholic Church. The mass will be celebrated by Fr. John Cordes of St. Catherine’s. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at St. Catherine Church.
