Martha E. Bugbee, 97, Emporia, Kansas, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
Martha Drummond was born on the family farm near Elmdale, Kansas on April 16, 1920, the daughter of William Lamb and Mabel E. (Beach) Drummond. Martha and Virgil W. Bugbee were married in the parsonage of Grace United Methodist Church, Emporia, on October 4, 1942. He died October 14, 2006.
Surviving family members include her daughter; Barbara (Tony) Christiani, Emporia, grandsons; Michael and Derek (Morgan) Christiani, and great-granddaughter; Emery Ann Christiani and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Doris Drummond Hunter.
Before her marriage Martha worked at Moon Abstract Company. After marrying Virgil they owned and operated the former Emporia Motel at 6th Avenue and Peyton Street for many years.
A member of Grace United Methodist Church, Martha was a member of United Methodist Women and the Johanna Circle. She was very active in volunteer work, being a 45 year member of the Newman Hospital Auxiliary, and she and Virgil delivered Meals On Wheels for several years.
Funeral services will be at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. The service will be conducted by Pastor Lee Hoskins. Interment will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home an hour prior to the service Tuesday.
A memorial has been established with the Emporia Friends of the Zoo, with contributions sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
