Martha Nell Lewis, 65, of Kansas City, Kansas, died on May 29, 2012 at University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
Martha was born on September 8, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Price and Elizabeth (Osgood) Lewis. She is survived by her brother, David P. and wife Sandra Lewis of Crandall, Texas; one niece, Meredith Lewis of Kaufman, Texas; one nephew, Justin and wife Jennifer Lewis of Kaufman, Texas; and two great-nieces.
She is preceded in death by her father, Dr. Price Lewis in 1996 and her mother, Elizabeth Lewis in 2001; grandparents, George and Edna Osgood both died in 1958, Robert T. Lewis in 1958, and Nellie Jones Lewis in 1936.
Martha graduated from Emporia High School in 1964 and later went to Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from the University of Kansas with her bachelor’s degree, and then received her master’s degree from Emporia State University. She was a teacher in Kansas City Kansas public schools for 33 years before retiring 11 years ago. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Emporia.
Cremation is planned, with a graveside memorial service to be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 18, 2012, at Evergreen Cemetery, Emporia, Kansas. Memorial contributions to Yorkshire Terrier Club of Greater Kansas City Rescue may be sent in care of the funeral home.
