Marvin Glenn “Mike” Haag, of Emporia, passed away on Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, at Newman Regional Health. He was 78.

Born on Dec. 13, 1947, in rural Alta Vista, Kansas, to Ernest Nicholas and Kathryn Audra (Scott) Haag, Mike grew up on the generational family farm. He graduated from Alta Vista High School before serving in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970, including service in Southeast Asia, attaining the rank of E-4. After returning home, he worked for a neighboring farmer for a short time.

Mike met Linda Blair on a blind date in 1973 and quickly married her on June 22, 1974, in Emporia. For the next 52 years, Mike and Linda built a life together centered around faith, family and hard work. They raised two sons, welcomed five grandchildren, and enjoyed traveling together in their retirement.

Mike spent 28 years as an electrician for Didde Web Press, and another 13 years in the maintenance department at CrossWinds Counseling & Wellness. Retirement never suited him particularly well if it meant sitting still, so he also worked for Kenoma Farms.

Mike could often be found mowing grass or working on a mower, car or tractor - most recently restoring his prized Oliver Tractor. He was a man who knew how to fix things, enjoyed working with his hands, and was always willing to put those hands to work to serve someone else.

That was especially evident at Flint Hills Bible Church, where Mike was a longtime and active member. Many will remember the big smile and hearty handshake that greeted them at the front door, and the cracked joke and grin that were never far behind. But Mike was just as comfortable serving where no one was watching. If there was grass to mow, a widow who needed help, or a childcare volunteer needed for Tuesday Morning Bible Study, Mike was ready to lend a hand. His faith shaped the way he lived and served others.

As we remember Mike, we think of how he loved the words of “All My Ways Are Known to You.”

“I do not fear the final night

for death will be the door to life.

You take my hand and lead me through,

for all my ways are known to You.”

Mike’s faith has now become sight.

Mike is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home; sons, Brent (Lizzie) Haag of Olathe; and Brian (Bridget) Haag of Emporia; grandchildren, Brennan, Aleenay, Makaelyn, Daphne, and Violet Haag; sister, Deloris Leary of Emporia; and sister-in-law, Barbara Haag of Emporia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Carolyn Meares; and brothers, Albert LeRoy, Edwin and Larry Haag.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, at Flint Hills Bible Church, with Military Honors by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Alta Vista Cemetery in Alta Vista.
