Marvin Ira Standley, Jr., 68, of Emporia, Kansas, died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.

Marvin Ira Standley, Jr. was born September 28, 1942 in Finney County, Kansas to Marvin & Marie (Kelley) Standley. He attended Pierceville Elementary School, Sabine High School in Garden City, Kansas, and attended Garden City Community College. He served in the United States Air Force as an E2 airman from 1961-1963. After being honorably discharged, he returned home to begin farming.

He married Sybil Nuzum on December 31, 1968, they later divorced. He was a lifetime farmer in the Plymell Community until his retirement in 1998. When he relocated to Emporia, Kansas, he worked for the Lyon County Road Department. He married Paula Jean Baillod Emley on August 6, 2005 in Emporia.

Survivors include his wife Paula of the home; brother, John “Steve” Standley of Garden City, Kansas; son, Mark Standley of Garden City; daughters, Kelle Standley of Seattle, Washington, and Kim Everett and Misty Reimer, both of Garden City; and six grandchildren.

Marvin loved spending time with his wife Paula. His hobbies included hunting, trap shooting, and rifle/gun smithing. He served on the Finney County Sheriff’s Posse and trained guard dogs for police and private security firms. He was a member of the Garden City Masonic Lodge; Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Emporia; Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, Emporia; Sand & Sage Rifle and Pistol Club; and National Rifle Association.

A memorial service is planned for Monday August 1, 2001 at 10:30 A.M. at Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Emporia. VFW Chaplain Lee Hoskins will be officiating.
