Mary M. Appel, 84, of Emporia, Kansas, died Friday, August 16, 2013 at the Osage Nursing Center in Osage City, Kansas.
Mary Marie White, the daughter of Earl Edgar and Edith Yeager White, was born on May 17, 1929 in Emporia. She married Norman Claire “Casey” Appel on February 24, 1957 in Emporia. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2011.
Mary had been a telephone operator in Emporia for over 30 years. After retiring from the phone company she also worked part-time at David’s-Alco store, and Walmart.
She is survived by her son, Richard E. Appel of Emporia; her daughter, Patricia Appel-Murray of Osage City; and two brothers, Earl Edgar White and Perry White both of Emporia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman and her parents.
The casket will be closed. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, with Rev. Chester Morris of the Church of the New Covenant officiating. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery, west of Emporia.
