Mary Lorene Edwards Bethurem
M. Lorene Bethurem died Sunday, August 29, 2010 at her home in Emporia. She was 101.
M. Lorene Edwards, the daughter of Robert John and Beatrice C. (Courtner) Edwards, was born May 28, 1909 in Lebo, Kansas. She Married William J. Bethurem in Lebo on October 18, 1928. He died August 22, 1987.
She is survived by a brother James F. Edwards of Emporia; two nieces Joan Kelley of Overland Park, and Linda Sue Hammerle of Wichita; five nephews Tom Edwards of Florida, Charles Ott of Wichita, Robert Edwards of Emporia, John Edwards of Wichita, and Richard Edwards of Halstead. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters and three brothers.
Lorene worked in the accounting department of the Scott Foreman Co. in Chicago for seven years, retiring in 1961. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Emporia, PEO Chapter DI, The Trend Study Club, Ball-McColm Post 5 American Legion Auxiliary, Newman Regional Health Auxiliary, and the Friends of the Emporia Public Library. She loved reading books, gardening, and playing bridge with her friends.
The memorial service will be 10:30 AM Friday, September 3, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Emporia. Pastor Nancy Gammill will officiate the service. Inurnment will take place at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations to either the First United Methodist Church or the Emporia Salvation Army can be sent in care of the funeral home.
