Mary Elizabeth Brust, born October 30, 1929 in Hartford, Kansas to Rasmus and Alta (Rifenbark) Andersen, slipped free of her earthy bonds on May 27, 2015, and left us for her eternal peace and rest with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Paradise.
Mary was the youngest of four children. She was preceded in death by a son, Ralphie Gene; a daughter, Deanna (Franz); her mother and father; and two brothers, Stanley and Glenn.
She is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Susan), Joseph, and Lauren (Jennifer); son-in-law, Rodney Franz; a daughter, Alta; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and her loving sister, Audrey Weller.
As a child, Mary moved with her family to Emporia in 1935. She attended Emporia public schools and was a graduate of Emporia High School. She was married to James J. Tobin on May 29, 1948. She lived many years in Emporia before moving to Chanute and then to Wichita, and finally returning home to Emporia.
Mary was employed after high school by Hallmark Cards of Emporia. She worked several years for the Dolly Madison Bakery and was also employed as a cook for a nursing home in Chanute prior to retirement.
Services will be held on Friday, June 5, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia. The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 A.M., and the family will receive friends preceding the Mass at 10:30 A.M. Father Thomas H. Dolezal will be officiating, with the inurnment to follow the service in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Emporia.
In Mary’s memory, contributions may be made to either Emporia Presbyterian Manor’s Residents Care Fund or Hand in Hand Hospice, and sent in care of the funeral home.
