Mary Alice Goodwin, 87, Emporia, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, April 18, 2013 at the Rose Estates Assisted Living Center, Overland Park, Kansas.
Mary Alice Geiger was born in Olpe, Kansas on October 14, 1925, the daughter of Jacob and Anna (Boes) Geiger. She was united in marriage to Howard R. Goodwin on November 6, 1943 in Riverside, California.
Mrs. Goodwin was a clerk in the office of the Division Superintendent of the Santa Fe Rail Road in Emporia for 32 years. She retired when the division offices in Emporia closed.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia, as well as the Sacred Heart Rosary Altar Society. She was an active member of her church community and often helped with funeral dinners at the church. Mary Alice was also a member of several bridge clubs in Emporia.
Surviving family members include her husband, Howard; daughters, Cheryl Wells, Arlington, Texas, and Dianne Renfro, Fort Collins, Colorado; son, Gregory Goodwin, Overland Park, Kansas; son-in-law, Delmer Hiesterman, Missoula, Montana; sisters, Mildred Mach, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Eileen Gasche of Olpe; sixteen grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by daughter, Joyce Hiesterman; son-in-law, Ronald Wells; brothers, Raymond Geiger, Aloysius Geiger, Alfred Geiger, and Clarence Geiger; and sisters, Lucille Decker and Wilhelmina Soule.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 22, 2013. Mass will be celebrated by Father Rich Warsnak. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Olpe, Kansas.
The Rosary will be recited at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, Sunday evening, April 21, 2013 at 7:00 P.M.
