IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Theresa
Hayes
December 29, 1941 – February 11, 2026
Mary Theresa Hayes (Metz), age 84, passed away on February 11, 2026. She was born on December 29, 1941, to parents William Metz and Mary Elizabeth Metz (Matile) in Olpe, Kansas, where she grew up on the family farm that shaped her strong values, love of family, and deep faith.
Mary was raised as part of a large, close-knit family of eight siblings: Dan, Dave, William, John, Betty, Mary, Thomas, and Louis. Life on the farm in Olpe instilled in her a lifelong appreciation for hard work, togetherness, and simple joys.
Mary attended St. Joseph Catholic School and Olpe High School, later completing cosmetology school in Wichita, Kansas. She worked professionally as a beautician and retired in 2010.
Mary was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest fulfillment was found in her family. She is survived by her children, Robert Hayes and his wife Jennifer, and Michelle Garrett and her husband Blain. Mary also leaves behind seven grandchildren—Laura, Olivia, Justen, Jacob, Bailey, Gunner, and Analie—as well as eight great-grandchildren. She treasured time spent with her loved ones and took particular pleasure in attending fashion shows and theatrical performances with her grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Kimberly Ann Taylor, and her brothers John, Dave, Thomas, and William.
Mary was a woman of strong Catholic faith, attending St. Joseph Church and School. Her faith guided her throughout her life and provided comfort and strength.
Mary will be laid to rest with her parents and brother at Maydale Cemetery in Olpe, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Mary’s memory.
A service announcement will be made at a later date.
Mary Theresa Hayes will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her legacy of faith, family, and love will live on through generations.
