Mary Jane Lutz

Mary Jane Lutz, 93, Topeka, Kansas, passed away at Rolling Hills Care Center, Topeka, Kansas on Monday, December 13, 2021.

Mary Jane was the daughter of John R. and Bertha (Thill) Lutz. She grew up in the Olpe area and attended Olpe schools. She received her Bachelor degree from Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia in 1951. Following graduation she moved to Topeka and taught in Topeka public schools until her retirement. Through the years she never lost her love for her hometown, speaking fondly of Olpe and returning often. She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka. Her faith was always important to her and she never missed a mass when able to attend.

In June of 2016 Mary moved into Rolling Hills Assisted Living Center in Topeka. While a resident there, one of her greatest joys was playing piano for the residents and guests. She held a deep passion for music.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Ralph, and his wife, Clara, and Chester Lutz. Surviving family members include nieces, nephews and extended family.

A private graveside service will be at the Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Olpe, Kansas, surrounded by her family.

Memorials have been established with Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Topeka, Kansas or  Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Olpe, Kansas. Contributions may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
