Mary Anna McClenny, 88, of Emporia, Kansas, died on January 19, 2012 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 23, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia. Services will be conducted by Father Richard Warsnak. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Emporia. The Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The family will receive friends until 6:00 p.m. following the Rosary.


She was a resident of Emporia most of her life. She was an employee of The Emporia Gazette during her college years as a cub reporter and proofreader. Later, she worked as the society editor and reporter for about ten years, retiring in 1985.


Mary Anna White was born in El Dorado, on September 20, 1923, the daughter of Marguerite Smith White and John Francis White.


The family moved to Emporia in 1926. She married Dan C. McClenny on June 20, 1944, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He died on April 24, 2011 in Emporia. She was a member of the church, graduated from Sacred Heart School, and was a graduate of Emporia High School. She was a former student at Kansas State Teachers College, a member and past president of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority, and a member of Pi Kappa Delta, a National honorary forensics fraternity.


Mrs. McClenny was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. Other memberships included: American Business Women’s Association, Trend Club, the Golden Chain Garden Club, a bridge club and the American Legion Auxiliary.


Survivors include three daughters, Diane M. Post and husband, Gail “Wally” of Odessa, Texas, Patricia McClenny and husband, Rocky Wilson, Dolores, Colorado, and Laura L. McClenny, Emporia; sons, Dan D. McClenny and wife, Dolores Mazurkewicz, Hesperus, Colorado, and Mike M. McClenny, and wife Kathrine, Durango, Colorado; a brother, Frank White of Wilmette, Illinois; four grandchildren, Catherine Post Nutt, Christopher Post, John McClenny, and Megan McClenny; and great-grandchildren, Quentin Nutt, Connor Nutt, and Kiera Post.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Nanette McGuire; and a brother, Con E. White.
