Mary L. Pool

Mary L. (Daily) Pool died Sunday, December 31, 2023, at Sunflower Legacy in Emporia.  She was 86.

She was born in Emporia, Kansas on February 20, 1937, to Ivan and Victoria DeFore Daily.  She married David V. Pool on November 10, 1956, in Emporia, Kansas.  He died on December 3, 2021, in Emporia.

She is survived by her three children: Jon D. Pool, Emporia, Kansas, Eric A. Pool of Springfield, Missouri, and Ann M. Moisan of Smithville, Tennessee.  She is also survived by eight grandchildren:  Andrew Pool, Jessica Pool, Jamie Siedlik, Megan Dean, Alison Pool, Hunter Moisan, Hannah Lewis, and Heather Edwards; great-grandchildren, Caleb Pool, Oliver Pool, Isaac McElroy, Ainsley McElroy, Owen McElroy, Evan McElroy, Lucas McElroy, Abigail Siedlik, Sophie Siedlik, Brantlee Lewis, and Millie Dean.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother J. Allen Daily, and great-granddaughter Elise McElroy.

Mary graduated from Emporia High School and Marymount College in Salina, Kansas with a B.S. in Education, and received both her Master and Specialist degrees in Education from Emporia State University.  Mary taught 27 years before retiring in 1995, the last 25 years were in the first grade at Village Elementary School in Emporia.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of and served in various offices of P.E.O. Chapter CG, Trend Club, Phi Delta Kappa, and Delta Kappa Gamma.  She belonged to the National Education Association and the Kansas National Education Association, Emporia Area Retired School Personnel, The Emporia Country Club, and the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority.  She was a life member of the Emporia State University Alumni Association and the American Association of University Women.

Cremation is planned with a visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia.
