Mary Margaret Smith, 73, of 25 Carter Street, Emporia, died on January 4, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.
Mary was born on March 4, 1937 in Hartford, Kansas, the daughter of Sylvester and Irene Fish Garland. She married Don Smith on March 6, 1959 in Emporia, Kansas. He survives of the home.

Daughters, Jackie Smith of Emporia, Leschia Sidener of Meriden, Kansas, Dana Schiesser of Benton, Kansas, and Lori McDonald of Prattville, Alabama; brothers, George Garland of Clearwater, Kansas, Donald Garland of Osage City, Kansas, Kenneth Garland of Missouri, Larry Garland of Missouri, and Harold Garland of Clearwater, Kansas; sisters, Betty Ernest of Osage City, Pat Matran of Topeka, Kansas, and Rose Harsh of Emporia, Kansas; fifteen Grandchildren, and one great-grandson
She is preceded in death by a daughter Vicki Smith; her parents; brothers, John Garland, Lawrence Garland, William Garland, Cecil Garland, and one infant brother; and granddaughter Haley O’Roke.
Mary was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 7, 2011 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, Kansas. Burial will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery west of Emporia. The family will greet friends from 10:00 A.M. Friday morning until the service time. The service will be conducted by Pastor Rob Schmutz of the Benton United Methodist Church in Benton, Kansas.
