Mary Elizabeth Sowers passed away on May 4, 2013 in Conroe, Texas. She was 89.
Mary was born in Americus, Kansas on February 15, 1924, the daughter of Elmer Clayton and Evelyn Marie Finney.
Mary was a homemaker and she loved being with her family and her extended family. She was a
lifetime member of The Eternal Order of Eastern Star, she enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and loved flowers of all kinds. She was a strong Christian lady, and was a member of United Presbyterian Church of Americus, Kansas, as well as attending Trinity Pines Baptist Church of Trinity.
Mary is preceded in death by husband, Benjamin Enoch Sowers; her parents; brothers, Gene Finney and Charles Finney; and a sister, Eleanor Hickman.
She is survived by a daughter, Wanda Soldan and spouse Richard; son, Everett Sowers and spouse Marilyn; grandchildren, Stephanie Sloan and spouse James, Nicholas Soldan and spouse Letitia; great-grandchildren, Marcus and Kaegan Sloan and Bella Soldan; brothers, William Finney and Clayton Finney; and a sister, Roberta Lewis. Numerous other relatives also survive.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 10, 2013 at United Presbyterian Church in Americus, Kansas. Pastor Brenda Ulrich will be officiating. She will be laid to rest in Americus Cemetery, Americus, Kansas.
The family will receive friends during the hour prior to the service on Friday, May 10, 2013 at United Presbyterian Church, Americus.
A funeral service was held in Trinity, Texas on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 7:00 P.M. at Waller-Thornton Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Gray officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Americus Presbyterian Church, and sent in care of the funeral home.
