Mary Alice Weller

July 23, 1939 — April 4, 2020

Sedalia

Mary Alice Mounkes Weller went to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, April 4, 2020. She was a resident of E.W. Thompson Health & Rehabilitation Center in Sedalia, Missouri. She was 80.

Mary, daughter of John W. and Mary E. Mounkes, was born on July 23, 1939 in Neosho Rapids, Kansas. Mary graduated from Americus High School with honors, declining a college scholarship to marry her high school sweetheart, Terry James Weller on March 9, 1958. The two were married at the United Methodist Church, in Americus, Kansas. They were married for 58 years before the Lord took Terry home on December 29, 2016. Mary loved being a stay-at-home mom, taking care of the home, and her family. Our mother loved, sacrificed and gave more to all those who knew and loved her throughout her life. Her big heart always placed others before herself. Once she got her children through high school, she went to work for Walmart, where she became a Department Manager for 23 years. She earned many awards and was personally chosen to train other stores and demonstrate how a successful department should be run and operated. The legacy she left are shoes few will be able to fill.  She is survived by her three children: Terry J. Weller Jr. (wife Sandy) of West Boylston, MA, Angela D Waters (husband Christopher) of Collierville, TN and Tamra D. Edwards (husband Mark) of Warrensburg, MO. She wasn’t only their Mother, but their best friend. Mary is also survived by her grandchildren: Brenton M. Edwards, Ashton N. Waters-Elwood, Autumn B. Edwards, and Houston B. Edwards. Mary was the most amazing Grandmother ANY child could ever hope to have in their lives. When each child believes they are the “favorite” grandchild, then you definitely did something right; which she did perfectly for every birthday, holiday, important milestone, sniffle, or doctor visit! Mary was a part of each of their lives every day no matter the distance or the miles, and they loved her so.

Mary is also survived by two brothers, Jim Mounkes and Richard Mounkes, and four sisters: Patricia Davis, Cheryl Prichard, Sandra Ross and Debra Hubert, along with many nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brother David Mounkes, brother John Mounkes, husband, Terry J, Weller, and her granddaughter, Savannah Marie Waters, who was always at the center of our Mother’s heart and all our family. Although our mother is no longer with us, she is with Terry, Savannah Marie and many other special people who left this Earth and are now walking along the streets of gold with our Heavenly Father, complete and whole.

Because of the present health concerns with Covid-19, the private graveside services will be held at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Neosho Rapids, Kansas. Memorial Services will be announced at a later date.
