Matias Coria

Matias Coria, age 86, entered into eternal rest with his family at his side in Olathe, KS on August 3, 2024, following a lengthy illness. Matias was born in La Viga, Michoacan, Mexico on September 8, 1937, to Tomas Coria and Salvadora (Lola) Jimenez Espino. He was one of six children.

Matias service in the Mexican Armed Force.  In 1960, he married Griselda (Chela) Vega and after they moved to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, he attended Seminario Biblico Rio Grande in Edinburg. They moved to Emporia, KS, in 1973, where Matias worked for Iowa Beef Processing until he retired. Matias served as minister for the congregation of Iglesia Bautista Central and La Capilla del Senor in Emporia.

Matias is survived by his wife, Chela, and his five children: Maria Piedad Sosa of Emporia; Benjamin Coria and wife Joyce of Emporia; Yolanda Newman and husband James of Lynxville, WI; Linda Coria of San Antonio, TX; and Alma (Amee) Rosales and husband Ruben of Olathe, KS. In addition, Matias is survived by his brother, Emiliano Arevalo of Edinburg, TX; sisters Emma Tovar and Lidia Felipe Ascencio of Emporia; thirteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2024, until 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the La Capilla del Senor at 102 Neosho Street in Emporia.  Graveside prayer will take place at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning at Maplewood Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.  The Celebration of Life Service for Matias will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at La Capilla del Senor, 102 Neosho Street Emporia.  Memorial contributions to La Capilla del Senor can be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O.
