Maurice A. Childears

Maurice A. Childears (TSGT. USAF, Retd.), who was also known as Bud or Mac, died at his home in Emporia, Kansas on Monday, December 26, 2011 at the age of 83.


Mac was born an eighth of a mile east of Central Schoolhouse in Fremont Township on the morning of 15 January, 1928, the last child of D. Arthur and Frances Lewis Childears.


He married Beryl Edwina Tipping, after Bans, in the Saint Mathews Church, Church of England, Yiewsley, Middlesex, England on 4 April, 1953. She survives. They have two children, Dale Edward Childears, Emporia, and Dianne Childears Ihling, Reading. He was a beloved Uncle, Great Uncle, and Great-Great Uncle to many, both in the USA and in England.


He was preceded in death by his siblings, D. Marion Childears, Dale L. Childears, Wilma Childears Abrahamson, and Frances Childears Shirley, as well as his parents.


He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in April, 1946 and retired from the United States Air Force in 1968. After the Air Force he worked for two different Lockheed Companies, one doing Research and Development and one analyzing Apollo Moon Program data. In 1969, he accepted a position with the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), part of the Defense Department at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He retired from the DIA on 1991 but continued to live in Arlington, Virginia, where the family lived for 35 years. In 2004, 58 years after he entered the Air Force, he, his wife, and son moved back to Emporia, Kansas; his daughter and her husband soon joined them.


In the fall of 1981 he started researching his family history and genealogy. A book was started in 1994, which was to list all known and identified members of the entire family in 1994. He completed and published “The Childers – Childears Family” which was printed by Speed Bind ™ of Book Publishing and Printing in Emporia in 2006.


Cremation has occurred.


A memorial service will be held at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. The service will be conducted by Captain Jeremiah Burris of the Salvation Army, Emporia, Kansas. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
