Maxine B. Helmer, 91, of Emporia died on Monday, August 29, 2016 at Newman Regional Health.
Maxine was born on September 3, 1924 in Enders, Nebraska, the daughter of John and Anna Danker Bischoff. She married Shirley L. Helmer on October 10, 1969 in Emporia. He died on October 21, 2010 in Wichita, Kansas.
Surviving family members include: son, Johnny Walker and wife Vicki of Albuquerque, NM; daughters, Ellen Ferman and husband Larry of Mulvane, KS, and Sharon Whitney and husband Ed of Elmdale, KS; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Shirley, parents, three sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Helmer worked at the Fanestil Meat Packing Co. for 15 years. She was a lifelong member of Messiah Lutheran Church.
The service will be held at the The Patio Garden at Memorial Lawn Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2016. Memorial donations to either Messiah Lutheran Church or to Hetlinger Developmental Services can be sent in care of the funeral home.
