Melrose H Humphrey III (Trey) aka Marc Mitchell Mann, born May 3, 1968 in San Francisco, California, came in like a screeching eagle and didn’t let up until he’d had enough of this world. He passed peacefully in his sleep Sunday, August 9, 2020 at Merriam Gardens in Merriam, Kansas with a smile on his face that we are certain was a smirk, not a smile.
His quick wit, mischievous pranks and impeccable timing was admired by many and tolerated by most. He made the best grilled cheese sandwiches ever eaten. At least, that’s what his mother states.
He adored his sister, Becky, who would defend him against anyone or anything, yet hold him down to tease him with a goober or tickle him with her hair in his face. Although only 5 years older, she took better care of him than any parent had the right to ask or expect.
When he met his older brother, they immediately bonded, having many things in common including gaming. Tom was a huge, positive influence in his life and they enriched each other’s lives.
When the siblings got together, either Skyping every few weeks or in person, their repartee knew no bounds. They kept their wits sharpened and their mother on her toes.
Survivors include: mother, Sandra K. Mann of Mesa, Arizona; sister, Rebecca L. Ybarra of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother, Tom E. Mattheisen of Kalispell, Montana and step-daughter, Katelynn Harrison of Phoenix, Arizona. Also, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins galore.
We are grateful for all the kind, loving, messages sent by phone, text and Facebook by so many relatives, so many friends. We are also thankful for the wonderful care he received for the last eight years at the Flint Hills Care Center. He made many friends of staff and residents. One staffer stated that he told her to “Make good choices” as she was leaving for Thanksgiving break that she will always remember with fondness. He referred to the staff in the Covid-19 unit at Merriam Gardens as “angels”.
Marc’s ashes will be spread in Montana and anywhere else we can think that he would like, including when his mother goes skydiving again. Because of state laws, she will not say when that might be.
So friends and family, from Marc, “Make good choices”.
