Melvin Holloway of Burlington, Kansas died on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington. He was 67.
Melvin was born on December 29, 1954 in Wichita, Kansas the son of Ival William and Vina Ovitha Sears Holloway.
He is survived by his brothers, Harold Holloway of Meridian, Idaho, Ivan Holloway of Denver, Colorado, Ernest Holloway, Calvin Holloway and Rocky Holloway all of Ava, Missouri; sisters, Leloa Hufft of Monett, Missouri, Ethel Welch of Lebanon, Missouri, Latricia Baker of Wichita, Laura Gideon of Monet, Missouri, and Cindy Ennes of Denver; and many nieces and nephews.
In 1992, Melvin transitioned to COF training Services in Osage from Hartford Manor. In 2019, Melvin transferred to a Burlington home within COF Training Services where he lived until he passed.
When Melvin became a resident at COF he met Rose. Who then became his lifelong sweetheart until his passing.
Melvin has worked in the following IDD workshops throughout his career life, Franklin County Rehab Center, Hetlinger’s workshop in Emporia, COF Training Services workshop in Osage City, and Burlington. Melvin also enjoyed working on the Budweiser plan through IEE in Osage City. He was hired through Stan’s Cleaning to clean throughout the week at the Senior Center for a short period of time in while in Osage. Melvin has been currently working at the COF Day Building in Burlington through IEE working on a contract through century link wrapping cords. He loves working and tries hard every day. Even through COVID his work was brought to his house so he could continue to work.
Melvin’s spent his social time with his peers and his family. He loved to play card, work on puzzles with his friends, and participating in BBQs with his housemates. Melvin enjoyed going to church; he was part of the church in Osage and in Burlington. He enjoyed going to visit his family, fishing, going to the Rec Center, renaissance festival, Bowling, Rodeos, state fair, out to eat, and going on vacations with Special Journeys. Melvin had a great personality, he loved to talk and chat with his friends, family, and guardian. Melvin is a caring, self-less person that his housemates, co-workers, and staff enjoyed spending time with. Melvin took great pride in his appearance.
Melvin participated in the Special Olympics, bowling tournaments, KIWANIS Men’s club of Osage City Kansas. Melvin loved volunteering his time with organizations to help out his community. He volunteered at Harvesters where in the summer they would provide meals for the kids in Burlingame and Osage City, KS; He volunteered to work the food table at the COF Golf Tournament, volunteered at the Old 75 Art Gallery in Burlington, KS; and every winter he would volunteer for the City of Lebo in making Santa bags for Santa to hand out to the boys and girls.
Cremation is planned with a graveside service at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 2022 at the Conway Springs Cemetery in Conway Springs, Kansas. Memorial contributions to COF Training Service can be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
