Merlen L. Turley, 89, of Americus, Kansas, died on May 29, 2012 at his home in Americus.
Merlen was born on March 4, 1923 in western Kansas, the son of Uless Spicer and Daisy Florence Coffee Turley. He married Mildred Scott in 1954 at Raton, New Mexico. They later divorced.
Surviving family members include: son, Merlen L. Turley of Americus; stepdaughter, Dianna Walker of Tennessee; and sister, Alberta Richardson of Ottawa, Kansas.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Pamela Wiggers in 1994; five brothers; and three sisters.
For several years, Merlen was a farmer in the Satanta, Kansas area. He later moved to Concordia and was the mechanic and operator of Deep Rock Kerr-McGee full service station for 27 years. After that he helped his son at his shop in Concordia at Merlen’s Triple M until 2007 when he retired and moved to Americus with his son.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, June 4, 2012 at Americus Cemetery in Americus. The service will be conducted by Pastor Roy Ferguson of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Emporia.
