Mildred (Milly) L. Hollembeak, 96 of Emporia, Kansas, died on July 22, 2013 at her home.
Milly was born on November 15, 1916 in Emporia, the daughter of Charles W. and Mildred S. Kenworthy Burnap. She married Hal D. Hollembeak on October 4, 1941 in Wichita, Kansas. He died on June 5, 2000 in Emporia.
She is survived by a son, Steven and wife Marcie Hollembeak of Winfield; a daughter, Karen Hollembeak; grandchildren, Brandon Hollembeak and Elizabeth Rathbun; and a brother-in-law, Ted Hollembeak of Emporia.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; a grandson, Keith Hollembeak; a brother, Harry Burnap; and a sister, Mary Leavell.
Milly graduated from Roosevelt High and later graduated from Kansas State Teachers College in 1938. She taught physical education at Bonner Springs, Kansas from 1938 to 1939, and then in Coffeyville, Kansas from 1939 to 1941 and later at Friends University from 1946 to 1951. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Emporia. Milly belonged to Emporia Country Club, Emporia Social Service Club, and Time Study Club. She was an avid golfer and bridge player, and loved sports.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia.
Memorial contributions to the H. Dale Buck Animal Welfare Fund or Emporia Friends of the Zoo may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
