Nellie Alice Hamilton, 82, of Emporia died on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia.
Nellie was born on May 20, 1936 in Chanute, Kansas the daughter of Lewis and Cecil Brown Stowell. She married William Franklin Hamilton on March 18, 1952 in Nevada, Missouri. He died on February 2, 2014 in Edinburg, Texas.
Surviving family members include: sons, William F. Hamilton, Jr. of Coshocton, Ohio, and Thomas E. Hamilton of Emporia, Kansas; daughters, Joyce Stone Rachwitz of Englewood, Florida, and Janet Wikel of Lawrence, Kansas; brothers, Jim Stowell of Pittsburg, Kansas, and Perry “Bear” North of Chanute, Kansas; sister, Betty Wood of Chanute, Kansas; Nine Grandchildren; Six Great-Grandchildren, and Two Great-Great -Grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her father Lewis Stowell, mother Cecil Stowell North; husband; daughter, Mary Bateson; great-grandson, Layne; brother, John Stowell; sister Nancy Bernard, Patty Vance, and Anne Woods.
Nellie was a Nurse’s Aide at the Peterson Nursing Home in Osage City, and at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. Nellie and Frank spent many years at Pamona Lake, Vassar State Park where they were camp host. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Emporia, and was also a member of the United Methodist Women.
Cremation is planned with a memorial service 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Grace United Methodist Church, Emporia. The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo can be sent in care of the funeral home.
