Noble E. Thornton, 77, of rural Hartford died Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
Noble was born on September 27, 1938 in Emporia, Kansas the son of George W. and Helen C. Krueger Thornton. He married Eileen Cannon on May 24, 1957 in Emporia, Kansas. She survives.
Surviving family members include: wife, Eileen of the home; son, William B. Thornton and wife Deb of Hartford, Kansas; daughters, Dee E. Wolf and husband Gary of Emporia, Kansas, and Stacey J. Thornton and fiancé Darrell Stephens of Olpe, Kansas; brother, George A. Thornton and wife Pat of Sedalia, Missouri; grandchildren, Jessica and husband Shawn Alexander, Ty and wife Stacy Wolf, Niki and husband Rick Daniels, and Brody and wife Lexie Herrick; great-grandchildren, Alex Alexander, Emma Alexander, Tristin Alexander, Daven Wolf, Colten Wolf, and Wyatt Daniels; and niece, Holli Thornton.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Noble was a lineman and cable repairman for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 32 years. After he retired he owned and operated Roberts Shoe Repair in Emporia for 14 years. In recent years, he worked for Jim’s Cowboy Shop. For over 20 years, Noble was the sexton for Jackson Township that included Union Cemetery, Forrest Hill Cemetery, Chicago Mound Cemetery, Badger Creek, and Mount Hope Cemetery. He was a member of the Jackson Township Fire Department Board, past member of the Lyon County Fair Board, and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Cremation is planned with a memorial service at 10:30 A.M., Monday, May 2, 2016 at the Emporia Presbyterian Church West Campus, Emporia. Memorial contributions to the Hartford United Methodist Church or the United Methodist Women may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
