Norma Jean Bailey, 69, of Topeka, formerly of Eskridge, left her family and friends on this earth to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 27, 2018 at her home assisted by Heartland Hospice, Kay Martin-Kopp and her beloved Sunflower Support Family. She was the 15 th child born to Wyatt M. Bailey and Cozie C. Smith-Bailey. Born on September 16, 1948 in Eskridge, Kansas, she attended Eskridge School until the 5 th grade. Norma and Cozie left the Eskridge homestead in 1970 joining Yvonne and the rest of the family that were in Topeka.
Norma Jean became engaged with the TARC community before moving to San Diego, CA in 1976 with her mother. There she was involved with the North Shores Center of the Association for Retarded Citizens and received a perfect attendance award. She was recognized for her hard work and outstanding contributions. In the early 1980’s they moved back to Topeka where Norma Jean truly started her new and independent life with TARC and Sheltered Living. Then in 2000, she made her home with Sunflower Supports. Throughout her life Norma worked in the housekeeping and production professions. Brandon Hatfield stated that Norma has worked with T.I.E.S. for twenty-nine and half years where she had made beds and mailed envelopes until she needed oxygen.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters, Bertha Irene Bailey-Brown, Ruth Ilene Bailey-Banks Lucksted, and Azalea Bailey-Jackson; and brothers, Wyatt M. Jr., Mark (Bill), Warren, Newton, and David Bailey.
Surviving this wonderful sweet soul include: brothers, Lawrence (Pete) Wak, Lett (Chino) of Topeka, and Joe Louis and wife Donis Edmonds, California; closest nieces in age who were raised with her in Eskridge include, Robin Bailey-Benson of San Diego, CA, Yvonne Bailey-Banks of Topeka, KS, and many others such as 23 nieces/nephews, 33 great-nieces/nephews, and at least 18 great-great-nieces/nephews; and extended family members and friends.
Memorial service will be 1:00 P.M., Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Sunflower Supports, 2521 SW 37 th St, Topeka, KS 66611. Memorial funds to Sunflower Supports can be sent in care of the funeral home.
