Norma J. Houck, 84, of Emporia died on Friday, June 6, 2014 at the Ottawa Retirement Village in Ottawa, Kansas.

Norma was born on February 13, 1930 in Dunlap, Kansas, the daughter of William David and Mary Ruth Walker Mirfield. She graduated from Leroy High School and was a homemaker prior to working for Emporia State University in Bookkeeping for over 30 years, and retiring in 1992.

After she retired, Norma was a member of the Lyon County Historical Society and enjoyed studying genealogy. She was a past member of the Dunlap United Methodist Church.

Norma is survived by her daughters, Marcia Smith of Springfield, Missouri, Barbara Cooley and honorary son-in-law, Mark Cooley of Olathe, and Sherryl Richardson and husband Mike of Emporia; grandchildren, Justin Nelson, Cody Cooley and significant other Kim Jacoby, Amanda Cooley and husband Tim Mathias, and Kendra Cooley; great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Matthew Nelson, Vincent Cooley, and Alicia and Abagail Mathias; a sister-in-law, Joyce Swim; and nieces, Janet Higgins, and Kathy Hilmers.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and half-brothers, Lenny Swim, and Bill Swim.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 13, 2014 at Dunlap Cemetery in Dunlap, Kansas. Memorial contributions to the H.
