Norman “Casey” Appel, 81, of Emporia, Kansas, died January 11, 2011 at Newman Regional Health in Emporia, Kansas.

Norman “Casey” Appel was born January 29, 1929 in Otis, Kansas, the son of Sam and Sophie (Hartman) Appel. Casey married Mary Marie White in Emporia, Kansas on February 24, 1957.

He is survived by: his wife Mary of the home; son, Richard E. Appel of Cedar Point, Kansas; daughter, Patricia Appel-Murray of Osage City, Kansas; and two sisters, Lois Jean Meisinger of Wichita, Kansas, and Mary Ann Dreiling of Springfield, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Charles Appel and Richard Appel.

Casey worked in crating at Didde Web Press in Emporia for 25 years until his retirement 20 years ago. He was a member of Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, Emporia, Kansas.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia, Kansas, with Dr. Patrick Murray, Osage City, Kansas officiating. Interment will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery west of Emporia, Kansas. Military Honors will be by Ball-McColm post #5, American Legion, Emporia, Kansas and Lowry-Funston post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Emporia, Kansas.

Memorial contributions may be made to the H. Dale Buck Animal Welfare Fund or the Lyon County Chapter of the American Heart Association, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
