Norman Joseph Brinkman (87), Lyon County egg producer, farmer, and livestock owner, died Sunday, September 5, 2010 at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
Norman Joseph Brinkman, the son of Joseph and Anna Fladung Brinkman was born October 1, 1922 on the family farm west of Olpe. He attended St. Joseph School and graduated in 1940.
He married Mary Dee Archer on February 23, 1952 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia. She survives of the Home. Other surviving members of the family include: three sons, John Brinkman and his wife Jodi, Eric Brinkman and his wife Lisa, and James Brinkman all of Olpe; three sisters, Irene Brown and Lucille Lumley both of Emporia, and Bernadine Starr of Wichita; seven grandchildren, Mark Brinkman, Matt Brinkman, Erica Brinkman, Kyle Brinkman, Jake Brinkman, Aaron Brinkman, and Jamie Swafford.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Paul.
Norman was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and sang in the choir. He was also a life member of the Olpe Knights of Columbus, the Kansas Poultry Association where he served as a board member. He served on the board of the South Lyon County School District #252 for 12 years. He was a primary organizer and served as president of the board of the Olpe rural water district for many years. He was a board member of the Emporia and Lebo Cooperative, and was a member of the Lyon County Livestock Association. He was interested in politics his whole life and was a Republican precinct committeeman for a number of years. He was an active life member of the Evening Kiwanis Club and received recognition and awards two different years for his work on soil conservation.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, September 10, 2010 at 10 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olpe, Kansas. Fr. Anthony Williams, of St. Joseph Church will officiate. The Rosary will be recited Thursday, September 9, 2010 at the church. The family will greet friends at St. Joseph Church from 6:30 PM until the Rosary on Thursday. Memorial donations to the St. Joseph School Endowment Association can be sent in care of the funeral home.
