Orval Dean Nelson, 87 of Emporia, Kansas died Friday, September 4, 2015 at Holiday Resort, Emporia.

Orval was born July 27, 1928 in Clifton, Kansas, the son of Albert Carl and Hazel Arvida Marie (Olson) Nelson. He moved to Emporia in 1941 and was a graduate of the Kansas State Teachers College. Orval was a farmer for 35 years and a rural mail carrier for 36. He had been retired for 25 years.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Emporia and very active as a Deacon and singing in the Choir. He was also a member of the Rural Mail Carrier Association and the Young Farmers.

Orval married Rowean Artia Womochil on May 30, 1954 in Abilene, Kansas. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include: sons, Kevin (NyCole) Nelson of Tribune, Kansas, Greg (Mary) Nelson of Gardner, Kansas, and Curtis Nelson of Emporia; daughter, Vicki (John) Wind of Kansas City, Missouri; sister, Peggy Knox of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and five grandchildren, Grant Nelson, Erica Wind, McKayla Nelson, Kashen Nelson, and Brecken Nelson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Wallace Nelson.

Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Emporia. Pastor Rob Clausen of the church will be officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2:00 P.M. Interment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia.
