Orville F. Brooks, 91 of Emporia, Kansas died Friday, September 4, 2015 at Holiday Resort, Emporia.
Orville was born April 26, 1924 in Ft. Scott, Kansas the son of Benjamin Franklin and Flora (Caton) Brooks. He served in the US Army during WWII as a part of the 463rd Ordinance Evacuation Company.
He worked in sales for Montgomery Ward in Emporia for 34 years, retiring in 1984. Orville was a member and past deacon of the First Christian Church in Emporia, and a member of Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Orville married Reba Stroud in 1948 in Ft. Scott, Kansas. She died May 23, 2007 in Emporia.
He is survived by: his companion, Judy Dodson of Emporia; daughters, Linda Keck of Emporia, and Sharon Brooks of Anchorage, Alaska; five grandchildren, Nicholas Brooks, Erica Goedde (Dustin), Christopher Brooks, Stacy Keck, and Colter Keck; and one great-grandchild, Brooklyn Goedde.
Orville was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a son, Larry Brooks.
Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the Patio Garden in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia. Pastor Bob Colerick of the First Christian Church in Emporia will be officiating. Military Honors will be presented by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, Emporia, and Lowry Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Emporia.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lyon County Historical Society Story Tellers Campaign and sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
