Orville Karl Buttenhoff, Emporia, Kansas, passed away June 11, 2014 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor, at the age of 75.
  
  
  Orville was born July 14, 1938 on the family farm at Lincoln, Kansas, to Karl & Lydia (Behrens) Buttenhoff.
  
  
  He was baptized and confirmed at Saint John Lutheran Church, Lincoln. He attended grade school at Saint John Lutheran School and graduated from Lincoln High School in May, 1956.
  
  
  Orville married Roberta Holman April 9, 1957. They farmed until March 1972 when he went into USDA meat inspection. Orville was first stationed in Emporia for 1972 to 1983 and then received a promotion to Great Bend from 1983 to 1993. He received a promotion to Concordia, Missouri, from 1993 to 1997, and then moved to Topeka, Kansas in 1997, where he retired in 2004.
  
  
  In 2011, Orville’s health was declining and he and his wife moved to Emporia, where he entered Presbyterian Manor Care Center in 2012.
  
  
  Orville was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Olga Zientarski and brother-in-law, Bernard Zientarski; a son, Karl Buttenhoff; and a grandson, George Buttenhoff.
  
  
  He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Rita (Rick) Cates; a daughter-in-law, Sherri Buffenhoff; granddaughters, Courtney Cates and Whitney Cates of Emporia; a brother-in-law, Bob (Grace) Holman; four nephews; and two great-nephews of Lincoln, Kansas.
  
  
  Memorial services will be held Monday, June 16, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1101 Neosho, Emporia. Pastor Norbert Tegtmeier will be conducting the service.
