Patricia I. “Patty” VanDalsem, 63, of Topeka, Kansas formerly of Emporia, KS died on December 1, 2010 at Midland Hospice in Topeka, Kansas.
  
  
  Patricia I. Detwiler was born on October 3, 1947 in Anthony, Kansas, the daughter of Virgil and Pat (Hyatt) Detwiler. Patty married John H. VanDalsem on August 23, 1969 at Kanopolis, Kansas. They moved to Emporia, Kansas in 1973.
  
  
  She is survived by: her husband, John H. VanDalsem of the home; mother, Pat Detwiler of Hutchinson, KS; son, John Paul VanDalsem of Olathe, KS; two daughters, Paula Hoffman of Merriam, KS, and Tricia Olson of Topeka, KS; brother, Doug Detwiler of Los Angeles, CA; three sisters, Chris Gordon of Baltimore, MD, Denise Pritchett of Lawrence, KS, and Sharle Meisenheimer of Hutchinson, KS; three grandchildren, Brandan Joseph Hoffman, John Bradley Hoffman, and John Hawkins VanDalsem. She was preceded in death by her father.
  
  
  Patty was the first woman to graduate from the Kansas Technical Institute with a Civil Engineer Degree. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Emporia and Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene in Topeka. She was very active in the church, helping in many different capacities. After being diagnosed with cancer, she started a cancer support group in Emporia. Patty worked as an office manager for Vectec in Emporia for 23 years, and had been retired for 12 years.
  
  
  The funeral service will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday December 4, 2010 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Emporia. The Service will be conducted by Pastor Mark Henson of the church. The family will receive friends Friday, December 3, 2010 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. at the Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene in Topeka, KS, and also Saturday December 4, 2010 prior to the service from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the First Church of the Nazarene. Interment will be at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. Memorial contributions will be designated later.
