Peter Leander Murphy died Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at Stormont-Vail Medical Center, Topeka, Kansas, at the age of 59.
Peter Murphy was born in Brussels, Belgium on February 14, 1954, the son of Ernest VanDyke and Leona (Johnson) Murphy. He married Mary A. Pound at Saint Catherine Catholic Church, Emporia, on December 27, 1975. She survives of the home.
Also surviving are two sons, Eric Brendan Murphy and Owen Michael Murphy, both of Emporia; and a brother, Ernest Murphy, Merriam, Kansas. His parents passed away earlier.
He was the Waste Water Treatment Supervisor for the City of Emporia for a number of years, and retired in 2006.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Cremation is planned, with inurnment at the Catholic Cemetery, east of Neosho Rapids, at a later date.
