Peter Michael Soetaert

Peter Michael Soetaert of Honolulu, Hawaii died on Saturday, May 4, 2024.  He was 48.

Peter was born on April 8, 1976, in Emporia, Kansas, the son of Thomas and Sharon Charlton Soetaert.

He is survived by his sons, Ian Yohan Soetaert and Isaac Joseph Soetaert, Honolulu, parents, Thomas and Sharon Soetaert, Emporia, brother Daniel (Amy) Soetaert of Springfield, Missouri, sister, Jan (Aaron) Trelc of Emporia and his nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles who are mourning his death as well.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Margaret Soetaert and Mary Alice and Bill Charlton.

Peter attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, Emporia Middle School, and Emporia High School.  He was a graduate of Kansas University with a degree in Anthropology.

Peter was an intelligent, hardworking student and adult. He was known by his family and friends to be likable, fun, and a shining light when he walked into the room.  Moving to Maui, Hawaii after graduation, he enjoyed a successful career as a building contractor and master carpenter, both on the islands of Maui and Oahu.

He loved entertaining his family and friends with fun and adventurous ocean activities when they visited from stateside.  He also enjoyed ski trips, especially to Colorado, with his boys, family, and friends.  Pete was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, friend, and father to his sons.  "A Hui Hou", Pete.  Until we meet again.

A Prayer Service has taken place at Nuuanu Gardens by Saint Augustine of the Sea Catholic Church, Honolulu, HI. With Dcn Keith Cabile and Pastor Lane Akiona ss. Cc.
