Phena Mae Benton, 85, of Wichita died on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at her home.
Phena was born on March 14, 1931 in Emporia, Kansas the daughter of Laurance and Vena Cordelia Hawkins Peacock. She married James L. Cook in September 1949, they later divorced. She later married her soulmate Charles Floyd Benton in June 1960.
Surviving family members include: son, Roger Cook of Maple Hill, Kansas; daughter, Della Henry of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren, Felica Cruz, D’Lisa Barcenas, Tiffany Ramirez, Sarah Heithaus, and Jeremy Brothers; great grandchildren, Lupe Cruz, Angelina Cruz, Isaiah Cruz, Gabe Barcenas, Kiara Barcenas, Tanner Ramirez, Aiden Ramirez, Aliana Ramirez, and Sydney Heithaus; four great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, soulmate Charles Floyd Benton, sisters Phyllis Becker, and Evadell Burden.
Phena was mainly a homemaker, she also worked for hotel in the kitchen and as an aide for a nursing home. She was a member of the Christian Grace Chapel in Emporia.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia with burial following at the Evergreen Cemetery south of Emporia. The visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. Thursday until service time. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been set up with the Keepsake Kottage in care of the funeral home.
