Philip Collins Reed, born February 20, 1944, to Parry Collins Reed and Alberta Annette Reed Brinkman, has lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. A cherished husband to Candela Hoss Reed, whom he married on February 4, 1967, Phil and Candy built a life rich in experiences, from adventures on their motorcycles (including five trips from Missouri to Alaska!), to country two-stepping, to travels across the country with the family. Graduating from Emporia State University in 1971 with a degree in Industrial Technology, Phil embarked on a career in sales, eventually founding Phil Reed's Classic Motor Company in Parkville, Missouri, where he “worked” (and played!) for 33 years. He loved classic Chevrolets, 409 engines, but even more so, he loved all the people that he met through his business from all over the world that became his dear friends.
Phil's greatest joy was his family. He is the beloved father of Christine (Jason) Crump and April (Craig) Giesmann and a proud grandfather to Jeff (Haley), Justin (Carissa), Joshua, Garrett, and Wyatt, great grandfather to Elizabeth, uncle to Christian (Tiffany) Anderson, and cousin to Jack (Reta) Coffman and Alan (Cathy) Lewis. He was known for his sense of humor, his generosity, and for being the life of the party. Phil loved his family deeply and was always their biggest protector. He would do anything for those he loved.
The people in his life were what he loved the most, but he also loved Harley Davidson motorcycles, his Kansas City “CHIEEEEFS!”, and his Mickey Mantle and Lone Ranger memorabilia. The Reed family extends heartfelt gratitude to the special souls at Ancora Hospice and Home Instead Wasilla for their compassionate care, which allowed Phil to remain at home throughout this journey, surrounded by his family.
Until Phil was five years old, he lived with his parents and sister in the family farmhouse near Reading, Kansas, a special place of fond memories which he cherished for his entire life. This same farm was recently sold and converted to an event venue called “The Riverview”. Visitation will be held at The Riverview on Monday, August 24 at 12:00pm with funeral services starting at 2:00pm and burial following at the Reading Cemetery, where six generations of the Reed family have been laid to rest. Directions for the best route: Using Google Maps, get directions to Reading, Kansas and then go north on Z Highway/S Carlson Road for two miles. The Riverview is located at 11506 W. 285th St, Reading, KS 66868.
Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, 605 State Street, Emporia, Kansas is assisting with Kansas arrangements.
