Phillis Jo Hamilton Thomas, 64, Emporia, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, November 17, 2013 at Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia.
  
  
  
  Phillis Jo Vogts was born September 18, 1949 at Emporia, the daughter of Albert and Josephine (Hinrichs) Vogts. She married Lloyd Allen Hamilton in Emporia on August 2, 1969. He died July 8, 1988. On May 1, 1999, she married Norman Ray Thomas at Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia. He survives.
  
  
  
  Phillis is survived by her husband, Norman; sons, Lloyd Shannon Hamilton, Maryville, Missouri, W. Travis Hamilton, Hamilton, Kansas; stepson, Brian Thomas, Emporia; stepdaughter, Shelli Hudlin, Wichita, Kansas; brothers, Dennis Vogts, Mesa, Arizona, Mike Vogts, Madison, Kansas, and Keith Vogts, Manhattan, Kansas; sister, Beverly Miller, Madison, Kansas; grandchildren, Ashley and Becca Hamilton, Hamilton, Kansas; and step-grandchildren, Kaylee, Nathan, and Jordan Thomas.
  
  
  
  She was preceded in death by her parents, and first husband, Lloyd.
  
  
  
  Phillis was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia. She owned and operated the Madison Café 11 years, P.J.’s Pie & Ice Cream 13 years, and was head cook for North Lyon County U.S.D. #251 for 7 years, until her retirement three years ago. She loved to grow various plants and to cook.
  
  
  
  Memorial services will be at Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia on Thursday, November 21, at 10:00 A.M. The service will be conducted by Pastor Norbert Tegtmeier. Cremation is planned, with private family inurnment services at a later date in Blakeley Cemetery, Madison.
  
  
  
  The family has established memorials with the Youth Programs of the church or Hand In Hand Hospice, with contributions sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
