R. Dean Grisell, Emporia, Kansas, died Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Heart Institute, Saint Luke’s Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri. He was 83.
R. Dean Grisell was born in Emporia on December 6, 1929, the son of Al and Muriel (Hindman) Grisell. He married Frances Jacobs at the First Christian Church, Emporia, on April 2, 1950. Rev. Leroy Hay officiated at the ceremony.
Surviving family members include: his sons, Randall D. Grisell, and his wife, Marsha, of Garden City, Kansas, and Scotty R. Grisell and his wife, Karen, of Olathe, Kansas; daughter, Sandy Berry, and her husband, Jeff, of Emporia; sister, Muriel Mullikin, Augusta, Kansas; six grandchildren, Clark Grisell, and his wife Katie, Megan Black, and her husband, Chuck, Michael Grisell, and his wife, Elizabeth, Ryan Benton, Kylee Poudrier, and her husband, Shawn, and Matthew Benton, and his wife, Beth; three great-granddaughters, Amira and Henley Benton, and Bella Black; and three great-grandsons, Colton Grisell, Jackson Benton, and Sutton Poudrier.
Dean was a member of the First Christian Church, and was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He worked at Emporia Music Company for 42 years, retiring 20 years ago. After his retirement, he and his wife, Frances, spent winters in Arizona. They loved to travel and spend time with family, and he enjoyed playing golf.
Cremation is planned.
A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church, Emporia, on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at 10:00 AM. The service will be conducted by Pastor Bob Colerick, of the church. Inurnment will be at a later date in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.
The family will receive friends at the church before the service.
A memorial has been established with the June Bug Foundation, an organization that provides assistance to cancer patients and their families. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
