Rachel “Ol’ Rach” Davis, 92, of Emporia, Kansas, passed away on December 31, 2010 at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor in Emporia, Kansas. Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
  
  
  Rachel Schoenig was born June 22, 1918 in Grano, North Dakota where her father was a train station manager. She is the daughter of Jon and Emma (Johnson) Schoenig. She graduated from the University of North Dakota and did advance training at the University of Iowa. She taught physical education at the University of North Dakota for two years. She was married to Merton Swenson in Grand Forks, North Dakota on November 14, 1942. He died January 10, 1945 in Belgium while serving in WWII. She served in the American Red Cross during WWII in the recreational units at Winter General Hospital in Topeka, Kansas and in the Philippines and Korea. She moved to Topeka, Kansas in 1944 where she met Lee Davis. They were married June 17, 1946 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He died October 22, 1987 in Emporia, Kansas.
  
  
  Rachel is survived by: a son, Jon W. Davis & his wife Peggy of Lenexa, Kansas; a daughter, Nancy L. Davis & her husband Richard D. Ashmore of New Orleans, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Scott Davis & wife Karen of Prairie Village, Kansas; Megan Davis of Fairway, Kansas; Kristin Guidry Rich & husband Kevin of New Orleans, Louisiana; Collin C. Guidry & wife Lauren of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Taylor A. Guidry of New Orleans, Louisiana; three great-grandchildren, Rachel Davis, Shephard Davis & Madeline Cecile Rich.
  
  
  Rachel was a member of the Emporia Presbyterian Church, Emporia, Kansas; Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion Auxiliary, Emporia, Kansas; Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Emporia, Kansas; Eagles Aerie #2587 Auxiliary, Emporia, Kansas; University of North Dakota University Women & Alumni Association; volunteer for the Area Girl Scout Council, March of Dimes and the American Heart Association.
  
  
  Memorial contributions may be made to Hand-In-Hand Hospice and sent in care of the funeral home.
