Raymond Eugene “Ray” Luna, (81), of Emporia died Saturday May 21, 2016 at Newman Regional Health. Cremation is planned.
Ray Luna the son of James E. and Catherine L. Hoskins Luna was born January 12, 1935 in Plymouth. He graduated from the Toledo Township High School in Saffordville, and served on a submarine in the Navy from 1953 until 1957. He married Donna A. Stormont on August 20, 1960 in Wakita, Oklahoma. She survives of the home.
Other surviving members of the family include, three sons, James M. “Mike” (Lori) Luna and William M. Luna both of Emporia, Jeffrey E. (Kim) Luna of Leavenworth; a foster son, Brian (Georgie) Bender of Terrell, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Travis (Elizabeth) Dunn, Amber (Michael) Anderson, Zeke Luna, Mitch Luna, Jake Luna, Stormy Luna, Chris (Aeri) Bender, Matt (Jenn) Bender, Jayne Ann O’Byrne, Johnson Swafford; 5 great-grandchildren, Ellie Anderson, Maggie Anderson, Laila Anderson, Liam Bender and Graham O’ Byrne.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Margaret Cadd.
Ray had been the undersheriff for Lyon County for three years and drove a truck for the Dolly Madison Bakery for 22 years. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Emporia Masonic Lodge #12 A.F.& A.M., Miriam Chapter #14 of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Topeka Scottish Rite, Ball-McColm Post #5 of the American Legion, Lowry-Funston Post #1980 of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The memorial graveside service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, May 28, 2016 at the Cottonwood Friends Cemetery, west of Emporia. Pastor Susan Daniel-Brey of the Grace United Methodist Church will officiate. Emporia Masonic Lodge #12 will conduct the Masonic Graveside service and Military Honors will be presented by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will meet with friends Friday, May 27, 2016 from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
