Richard A. Carley, (71), of Emporia died Monday, February 15, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.

Richard Alan Carley, the son of Morris and Veronica Meyers Carley, was born April 18, 1944 in Emporia. He married Sharon Jacob in 1970 in Emporia, they later divorced. He later married Eleanor Whinery Aeschliman on February 17, 2006 in Emporia. She survives of the home.

Other surviving members of the family include: three daughters, Brenda (Tyson) Heins, Rochelle (Cory) Smith, and Cara (Matt) Parsons, all of Emporia; his mother, Veronica Carley of Neosho, Missouri; three sisters, Terry McCracken of Council Grove, Kansas, Tiekka Diane Vaubel of Saint Marys, Kansas, and Lana of California; a half-sister, Nancy Craighead of Westphalia, Kansas; as well as several other step-siblings and grandchildren; and his ex-wife, Sharon of Waverly.

Richard was preceded in death by his father and two brothers.

Richard owned and operated Richard’s Auto Body Shop in Emporia. He was an Army veteran in the Viet Nam War, a member of the American Veterans Association in Rock Mound, Missouri, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Auto Racing Association and the Emporia Eagles Club. He was raised as a catholic and had attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

The funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The Burlington American Legion Chaplain, Jim Edington will officiate. Burial will be in Bushong Cemetery with Military Honors by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
