Richard "Dick" Cawood Kessler

Richard “Dick” Cawood Kessler of Emporia died on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Newman Regional Health, Emporia.  He was 77.

Dick was born on August 27, 1943 in Newton, Kansas the son of Forest Edward and Vivian Lois Cawood Kessler.

Surviving family members include: brother, Forest “Corky” Kessler, Jr. and wife Karen of Liberty, Missouri; sister, Harriet Emley and Sandy Whitmore both of Emporia; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Rodger Kessler, and sister Vicki Kessler Hase.

Dick graduated from Emporia High School in 1961.  He attended the Emporia Teacher’s College and graduated in 1966 with his bachelor’s degree and a masters degree in 1972.  Dick was a middle school teacher prior to becoming principal at Maynard Elementary and Americus Elementary for over 30 years.

Cremation is planned with a memorial service at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.  Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.  Private burial will take place at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.  Memorial contributions to Emporia State Athletics can be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
