Richard “Dick” Dixon, Emporia, Kansas, passed away at Newman Regional Health, Emporia, on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at the age of 87.
Memorial services will be on Monday, March 2, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. Cremation will occur following the service.
Dick was born in Yakima, Washington, on April 5, 1927, the son of Lester and Alice (Anderson) Dixon. He married Dona Alexander in Washougal, Washington, she died earlier. On April 13, 1956, Dick married Norma Alexander at Yakima, Washington, she survives.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Lorrie (Richard) Harris, Portland, Oregon, Kellie (Mark) Bulson, Emporia, Debbie (Gary) Meggs, Monticello, Arkansas, and Tracie (Mike) Rodden, Springfield, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dona; an infant son, Richard, Jr.; a brother, Charles; and a sister, Jean Stobie.
During World War II, Dick served as a Pharmacist Mate (Medic) in the U.S. Navy. His postings included the Philippine Islands and China. For 22 years, he was a U.S.D.A. meat grader at the Emporia IBP Facility.
In past years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, shooting and archery, and loved working with his hunting dogs.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening, March 1, 2015 from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established to the Humane Society of the Flint Hills. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
