Robert Jay Murphy, 66, of Emporia, died on February 18, 2011 at Newman Regional Health, Emporia, Kansas.
Robert was born on December 3, 1944 in Emporia, Kansas, the son of Roy M. and Lorene Schmidt Murphy.
Surviving family members include: brothers, Dennis Murphy of Emporia, and Gary Murphy of Olpe, Kansas; sisters, Greta Bone of Tecumseh, Kansas, Norma Schreiner of Olpe, Kansas, and Joyce Finley of Leavenworth, Kansas; several nieces and nephews; and longtime friend Emily Gunkel of Emporia, Kansas.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Robert worked for Hetlinger Developmental Service for many years. He also delivered the Emporia Gazette for the downtown route. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. For thirty plus years, Robert was very active in the Special Olympics.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The service will be conducted by Father Rich Warsnak of the church. Interment will follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Emporia. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The memorial has been established with Hetlinger Developmental Service, and contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
