Robert “Bob” S. Johnson, 89, of Emporia, Kansas died October 11, 2012 at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas.
Bob was born on September 5, 1923 in Winfield, Kansas, the son of Seldon Lupher and Ada (Henry) Johnson. He married DeLores C. Blackett on May 14, 1943 at Grace Episcopal Church in Winfield. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include: sons, Barton Johnson of Emporia, and Stuart Johnson of Eskridge, Kansas; grandchildren, Brenda Lee and husband Mark of Emporia, and Traylor Johnson and wife Darcy of Emporia; twin great-granddaughters, Iris June and Isabelle Rose Lee, both of Emporia; sisters, Pauline F. Vollmer of Baltimore, Maryland, and Marjorie Benson of San Diego, California; niece, Joan Markowitz of Olpe, Kansas.
He is preceded in death by a brother, John S. “Bud” Johnson; a sister, Ruth Robinson; and a daughter-in-law, June Traylor Johnson.
Bob graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield, with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts degree. He did graduate work in Industrial Arts at University of Missouri in Columbia.
Bob worked for Didde-Glaser for 31 years as a purchasing manager. He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Emporia. He was a member of the 67th Construction Battalion Company D-3 of the Navy Seabees.
Cremation has taken place, with a memorial service to be held at 1:30 P.M., Wednesday October 17, 2012 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Emporia. Memorial contributions to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church or the Emporia Public Library may be sent in care of the funeral home.
